taiwan-schwarztee
Taiwan Assamica #8 Black Tea

This fascinating black tea from Taiwan has a taste as versatile as its history is exciting. It comes from the TRES #8 cultivar, which was bred and developed by Taiwan’s “Tea Research and Extension Centre”. The original TRES #8 plants come from the Assam region in India, which is known for its bold, malty-sweet black teas. During the Japanese occupation of Taiwan from 1895 to 1945, many tea plants were brought from Assam to Taiwan to produce black tea there on a large scale. Some of these Assamica plants still grow wild in Taiwan today.

Taste

If this taste were a feeling, it would be a cozy, rainy summer evening, snuggled up at Grandma’s. The Taiwan Assamica #8 black tea is incredibly intense and expressive, similar to an Assam, but much less bitter and much more on the sweet side. On top of that come light notes of cinnamon, licorice and cedarwood – an exciting and versatile taste experience.

Origin

This high-quality black tea comes from the Nantou region in Taiwan and is grown at an altitude of around 250 meters.
