Tea gardens in Taiwan rarely have garden names; most belong to individuals – and so does the garden of Mr. Chen. Alongside a great Four Seasons Oolong, he produces this outstanding Shan Lin Xi, which is grown and processed in very small quantities at an altitude of 1,300–1,400 meters.

Taste

At our first tasting of this tea, we couldn’t help thinking of fine wines and their many layers of flavor. An outstanding, complex tea for connoisseurs and anyone who wants to become one: alongside its fresh and smooth taste, it also shows light notes of mango.

Origin

This top-quality tea comes from Mr. Chen’s tea garden in the Taiwanese highlands and is grown at an altitude of approximately 1,300–1,400 meters. It is made from the Qing Xin (青心) cultivar, which roughly means “green heart”. The Taiwanese particularly value this cultivar for its slow growth, which allows a fine, aromatic taste to develop.

Origin: Shan Lin Xi, Taiwan

Tea garden: Mr. Chen

Altitude: approx. 1,300–1,400 m

Cultivar: Qing Xin (青心)

Oxidation: 15–20%

Caffeine: medium

Preparation

You can infuse the Shan Lin Xi Oolong up to four times.
